We would like to see all staff officers for Navigation-System attend the “AOT” workshop at sector Delaware-Bay on Saturday January 02, 2010.  The start time will be around 0800 Hrs.  Your “ADSO-Central” John Fuller will head the workshop.

On Saturday February 28-2010, Division “II” will conduct a one day training on the Paton & Aton Program.   This one-day will be part of the requirements to become qualified as an “Aid-Verifier”.   Training will include GPS positioning, depth of water calculations, forms need for the job and other required basic information.  Anyone interested in being an Aid-Verifier should be a coxswain or have completed the advance navigation course or better yet, went to the “C” school in Va.

On June 18 to 20th, 2010 in Yorktown, Va., there will be a “C” school for Patons & Atons.   For all the latest information please click, http://cschool.auxservices.org .  We can only send one or two members from the 5th District, if we have the money, so get your request in soon.

Since “Adopt-A-Chart” program is no longer in use, we need every member to do more chart updates.   If you do just one up-date next year it would make a big show of force, and keep the auxiliary at the top for Aton/Paton work.

Please use forms 77-5 or ANSC-7054 for the update  and send them to:

U.S.C.G. AUXILIARY
ATTN:  JIM LAFFERTY  DSO-NS
1 WASHINGTON AVE.
PHILA, PA    19147

In order to get credit for Paton/Aton work you must do that additional 7030 form for each buoy you report.

If you are interested in doing aton & paton work please contact any of your “NS” officers to get setup working with a mentor in our program.

A great web-site to get all forms for doing aton & paton work is   http://www.uscgaan.com .  This is “First Northern District web site but it has great training and needed forms.  The only thing different is that our Fifth District does not use “electronic” reporting.

In 2010 we would like to see more reporting, up and down the chain. Just sending us a copy of your division or flotilla report would be helpful to us.

The five “NS” Programs that we work with are:

  1. ATON
  2. Patons
  3. Bridges
  4. Chart Updating
  5. Small Craft Facility updating
